Canadian PM Mark Carney Stressed Ties with France and the UK

Canadian PM mark carney future plan: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized on strengthening Canada’s relations with France and United Kingdom during his first foreign trip. This journey is taking place when Canada is facing the dangers of growing trade war and sovereignty with the US.

Mark Carney, who has been the successor of Justin Trudeau and has been the Governor of Bank of England in the past, chose Europe instead of the United States for his first foreign trip. Carney said Canada needs to promote his relations with trusted allies like France, especially between the trade war and security challenges with the US. “It is more important for Canada to strengthen his relations with trusted colleagues like France,” Carney said during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Trade War from America and Canada’s response
Donald Trump has increased tension between the two countries by increasing the import rate on Canadian goods and challenging Canada’s sovereignty. Canadian citizens are in anxiety when the Canadian sovereignty is challenged by Trump. Referendum surveys suggest that most Canadians reject Trump’s argument that Canada will be better than the US. Carney said that Canada would have to work closely with European colleagues to protect its safety and sovereignty.

Canada’s role on Russia-Ukraine War
France and Canada have committed to support Ukraine since the Russian invasion. The two countries together have demanded a safety guarantee to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty. Macron and Carney said that they would demand clear commitments from Russia to ensure the safety of Ukraine and the whole of Europe.

Business relations with Britain and France
Canada’s business relations with France and Britain have also been emphasized. Canada has a comprehensive economic and trade agreement with France, and is a member of the CPTPP (Compressive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership), which now also includes Britain. Carney said that business could be affected due to tariffs and retaliation measures with the US, but focus on strengthening business relations with the European Union and other countries.

Arctic security and sovereignty
Carney will go to Nunnavut in the final stages of his journey, which is important to confirm Canada’s Arctic security and sovereignty. The journey is close to Denmark’s autonomous country Greenland, which was targeted by Trump.
