Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir on Friday (August 22, 2025) and discussed regional security, anti -terrorism measures and matters of mutual interest.
Wang Yi reached Pakistan on Wednesday to participate in the sixth round of strategic dialogue of foreign ministers in Islamabad. He also met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari and reiterated China’s commitment to work with Pakistan to promote regional peace, development and stability.
The Pakistani Army said in a statement on Friday that China has expressed ‘firm support’ for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development, as the two sides have agreed to strengthen their ‘evergreen strategic partnership’.
He said that the discussion between Army Chief Munir and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang focused on regional security, anti-terrorism steps and matters of mutual interest. Munir thanked China for continuous support.
Munir went to China last month, where he met Vice President Han Jeng, Wang and top military officers, but did not meet President Xi Chinfing like his predecessor General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
On Thursday, Wang and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had a strategic communication to review the entire aspects of bilateral cooperation including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, trade and economic relations, multilateral cooperation and people with people.
Wang reached Islamabad from Kabul. In Kabul, he attended a tripartite meeting with the foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The three sides in Kabul agreed to expand cooperation in various areas including the expansion of CPEC.
This is Wang’s second visit to Pakistan in the last three years. Last week, he traveled to New Delhi where he interacted with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and participated in the 24th Special Representative Border talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
