Foreign Minister S. On Wednesday (July 30, 2025), Jaishankar took a dig at the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh in the Rajya Sabha. Foreign Criticized Congress leaders as a self -proclaimed China Guru and criticized them.
Speaking on the issue of China in Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S.K. Jayashankar responded to the criticism being done by the opposition. Jaishankar said, “Nowadays some people are sharing a lot of knowledge on China. At the same time, some people have even said that I do not know about China.”

He said, “I have spent 41 years of my life in Foreign Service and only I have been India’s longest service ambassador in China. But now some people have become the Chiga Guru. One of them Honorable Member (Jairam Ramesh), who is sitting in front. The attachment for China is so much that he had added a new word to China and India to add a new word ‘Chindiya’ by adding China and India.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar made this comment taunting Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, who composed the word ‘Chindia’ (CHINDIA) to promote the idea of working closely with India and China in the early 2000s.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said about the word Chindia
In his interview given to China’s official newspaper Global Times in 2014, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said, “Ten years ago when I proposed the word ‘Chindia’ (Chandia), its aim was to cooperate with each other and face the upcoming challenges together.”
He said, “Chindia is not an old or irrelevant thinking; actually this is the approach with which the governments of both countries are moving forward. India and China should not become victims of those who naturally consider each other enemies.”

At the same time, Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar also indirectly targeted the earlier comments made by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi about China. It is noteworthy that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has questioned the Modi government’s way of dealing with the situation of border tension with China.
In a program in London in 2023, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that the understanding of the Foreign Minister about China was absolutely superficial. He had said, “I spoke to the Foreign Minister, but he does not understand China.” The BJP reacted sharply to this comment of Rahul Gandhi.
At the same time, Jaishankar took a sarcasm on this whole episode and said, “This ‘China Guru’ says that China and Pakistan have come very close and this is absolutely correct. But why they came close? Because we left the land of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) among them.”
