In the year 2023, China’s close Mujju and other cabinet ministers made objectionable remarks about the PM. Maldives achieved the Beijing Belt and Road Infrastructure Funding and the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement was signed in January 2025.

Mohammad Mujju now described PM Modi as a reliable friend and broke the protocol and welcomed him at the airport personally. On Saturday (July 26, 2025) on the last day of PM Modi’s visit, said, “PM Modi is a wonderful person who wants to have a good relationship with the neighboring country of India. There are centuries old good relations between Maldives and India. Now in the coming days, there is going to be cooperation and prosperous between the governments of both countries under the leadership of PM Modi.”
The economy of Maldives passing through a bad situation
At this time, the economy of Maldives is passing due to huge budget deficit and foreign exchange reserve. The Mujju given by the Government of India is important for the government to bring financial stability. China is still outstanding a large debt on Maldives, yet India has emerged as an important major partner for it.
During PM Modi’s visit, India has announced a new loan limit of $ 565 million for Maldives. The agreement to reduce its annual loan payment by 40 per cent has also been signed. Mohammad Moizu said that he will soon visit India.
Mujju praised PM Modi fiercely
Analysts believe that the main objective of Mujju is to bring the geographical and economic condition of the Maldives on the track. He cannot ignore India in the field of business, contact and tourism. Mujju said, “India is one of the major tourism countries that helps Maldives in the field of tourism. It is going to increase significantly after PM Modi’s visit. I am confident that this journey will increase the mutual exchange between the people of both countries.”
