‘Now the train has left and the station master …’, What did the Bangladesh court say in Sheikh Hasina’s case?

Bangladesh’s International Crime Tribunal (ICT) on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) dismissed the petition to allow senior advocate ZI Khan Panna of the Supreme Court to represent former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The matter is related to anti -humanity crimes associated with the protests that started in July last year.

Analysts believe that this decision is injustice to the judicial process and has violated Hasina’s right to rescue. Advocate Najnin Nahar filed this application on behalf of Panna.

According to local media, while hearing the petition in the testimony, the Tribunal said that it cannot be accepted. ICT remarked, “The train has already left the station, it is not possible to ride in it by informing the station master. There is no opportunity to appoint a new lawyer in this phase of the case.” The tribunal said that the Supreme Court lawyer Amir Hussain has already been appointed by the state to advocate Hasina.,

In which case the case on Sheikh Hasina is going on?

Significantly, on August 3, the prosecution started its action against Hasina and two others in the case of anti -human crime in ICT. The co-accused include former Home Minister Asdujman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chaudhary Abdullah Al Mamoon. After the proceedings, Awami League termed the allegations leveled against his leadership as politically motivated and called it a conspiracy of the illegal interim government led by Mohammad Yunus.

It is part of the conspiracy of a non-elected occupiers, which is desperate to end democratic legitimacy, silence the opposition and remain in power. Such a government has no legal and no moral rights that it has been prosecuted for the public. Parliament has the right to amend the law passed by Parliament. ”

He said that any democratically elected leader should not be prosecuted to perform constitutional duties while facing violent rebellion.
