Pakistan released 22 Indian fishermen on Saturday (February 22, 2025). The fishermen were released from jail on Friday after their sentence was completed. Pakistan officials released Indian fishermen from Malir Jail in Karachi. Newspaper & lsquo; Express Tribune & rsquo; Quoted Malir Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah as saying that fishermen were released from jail after completion of their sentence.
Edi Foundation’s big role in fishermen’s release
& lsquo; Idi Foundation & rsquo; Faisal Idi, the chairman of the fishermen, arranged for the fishermen to transport to Lahore, from where he reached the Wagah border. The pain of the families of fishermen was exposed by the Idi Foundation while in jail for a long period and called for their immediate release and early return after the sentence was completed.
Pakistani officials took the Indian fishermen to the Wagah border, from where the Indian authorities arranged for their return after completing the official formalities. Fishermen from both countries cross the sea borders and enter each other’s water area where they are arrested.
Pakistan has 266 Indian prisoners
According to the list of prisoners exchanged on January 1 between the two countries, there are 266 Indian prisoners in Pakistan, including 217 fishermen. According to the list shared by India, there are a total of 462 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails, including 81 fishermen.
Quoting sources, news agency ANI said that in the last 2 years, 8 Indian fishermen have died in Pakistan. Apart from this, 180 Indian fishermen are in jail in Pakistan even after their sentence is completed. India has been continuously raising these matters before Pakistan.
