Sugar Demands Hikes in Pakistan Due to Ramadan Sugar Sells at 180 Rupee Per Kilogram

Sugar Prisis in Pakistan : There is an outcry over sugar prices in Pakistan. Due to high sugar consumption in Pakistan in the month of Ramadan, demand has increased significantly, but due to low supply, sugar is getting 180 Pakistani rupees per kg in the retail market.

However, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had warned a few days ago about the increase in sugar prices. He had said that sugar prices in Pakistan should not cross the fixed limit of Rs 164 per kg. But in Pakistan’s retail markets, sugar has been skyrocketed with the sale of Rs 180.

The Dawn said in a report that the average national price in Pakistan is between 164 to 180 per kg.

The price declined after action on sugar hoarders

Rauf Ibrahim, president of the Karachi Holcellors Groughrs Association (KWGA), said, “Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced action on Chinese hoarders on 15 March. After this, the wholesale price of sugar in Karachi declined from Rs 168 to Rs 158 per kg.”

He said, “However, a slight fall of Rs 10 in the wholesale price of sugar also failed to prevent retailers from earning profit from the prices of sugar. At the same time, the demand for sugar has increased significantly due to the month of Ramadan.”

Government proved to fail to stabilize the price of sugar

Rauf Ibrahim further said, “The Shahbaz Sharif government of Pakistan has failed to stabilize the price of sugar in the country and to provide sugar to consumers at an assured rate of Rs 130 per kg.” He said, “Sugar retailers are suffering the most damage due to increased prices of sugar in Pakistan. At the same time, the government is only accusing the sugar mill owners, not taking any action.”
