European union offer to America: European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said on Monday (April 17, 2025) that the European Union is ready to negotiate with the United States and has offered to remove tariffs on industrial goods.
At a press conference in Brussels, the European Union’s executive wing head said, “These fees first and most importantly have a huge cost to American consumers and businesses, but at the same time, they also have a widespread impact on the global economy.”
What did Von Der Leyen say?
The Chairman of the Commission said on the afternoon of Monday (April 07, 2025), “We are ready to negotiate with America. In fact, we have offered zero-to-zero tariffs for industrial goods, as we have successfully done with many other business partners. Because Europe is always ready for a good agreement. So we keep it at the table of conversations and we are also ready to protect our interests.”
Von Der Leyen said that zero-for-zero offers for the automotive sector were also repeatedly offered, but there was no adequate response from Washington. A spokesperson said that the Commission has also included all industrial goods in recent times as well as all industrial goods. No more information was given about this.
How much tariff did the US impose on the European Union?
After the announcement of US President Donald Trump to impose heavy tariffs on dozens of countries last week, a 20% mutual tariff has been imposed on European Union exports by the US, while 25% tariff has been imposed on its steel and auto industry. Von Der Leyen said that the tariff, which has led to a huge decline in the global market, is a major turning point for the US.
