Muhammad Yunus Government Attack on Indian Media Over Bangladesh Army Report Says Deeply Irresponsible

Bangladesh army: The Bangladesh government on Thursday (March 13, 2025) said that some Indian media institutions claim that there is instability in the Bangladeshi army. Such reports have been reported in a very irresponsible manner without Aadhaar. Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, has reacted to this.

On the social media platform X, he wrote, ‘Recently some Indian media institutions have shown a large-scale baseless stories that are accused of coup or instability within the Bangladeshi Army which is not only baseless but also very irresponsible.’

Yunus further said, “Such propaganda campaign weakens the principles of intervention and severely reduce respect, as well as the reliability of the media outlets involved in it ends.”

Why did Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry object?

At the same time, objections were also raised about the comments of India’s Foreign Ministry. Bangladesh said that the recent remarks made in relation to Dhaka are similar to “inappropriate” and “interference” in other country’s domestic affairs. Last week, India expressed concern over the release of “violent extremists” from Bangladesh and underlined that it is the responsibility of Dhaka’s interim government to protect Hindus and other minorities as well as their religious institutions.

Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said that Dhaka has paid attention to the comments of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Bangladesh elections, law and order situation and minorities related to minorities. He said, “Bangladesh firmly believed that these issues are completely internal affairs and such comments are inappropriate and are similar to intervention in domestic affairs of other countries.”

What did India say?

Alam said that New Delhi’s comments are misleading and they do not reflect the ground reality. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had said that India supports a “stable, peaceful, inclusive and progressive Bangladesh”, in which all issues should be resolved in democratic ways and through inclusive and participant elections.

He said, “We are concerned about the deteriorating situation of law and order (in Bangladesh), which has become worse than the release of violent extremists decorated for serious crimes.”

India has repeatedly emphasized that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus and other minorities as well as their properties and religious institutions. The Indo-Bangladesh relations have been bitter after the deployed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh due to large-scale anti-government protests in August last year.
