New Zealand Sacks Diplomat for Questioned Trump Understanding of World War II

New zealand diplomate: New Zealand dismissed its ambassador to the United Kingdom. The diplomat had publicly questioned the understanding of US President Donald Trump about the events promoting World War II.

The office of New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Thursday (March 06, 2025) that she was not well in the United Kingdom during a panel discussion in London. The Ministry of External Affairs said that it is discussing about his return with goff and does not want to comment on it.

What did Phil Goff say?

Speaking at an event held at Chautham House in the presence of Finland Finance Elina Waltonon on Wednesday (March 05), Goff compared Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine with the 1938 Munich Agreement. Under this agreement, Nazi Germany was allowed to take some parts of Czechoslovakia. He said, ‘President Trump has restored the statue of Churchill in the Oval Office, but do you think he really understands history?’

What did the former New Zealand PM say?

At the same time, while doing a post on X, former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke criticized the expulsion of Goff and described it as a very weak excuse. She said that when she attended the Munich Security Conference in Germany last month, she had heard many people describing similar similarities.

Prior to his appointment as the apex diplomat in the UK in 2023, Goff served as many ministers including foreign affairs and completed two terms as the Mayor of Auckland.
