Also, Iran and Pakistan are connected to Zahedan-Mirzaveh Railway, which will make commercial and passenger travel easier.
Softening in Russia-Pakistan relations and India’s concerns
Relationships between Russia and Pakistan are improving compared to before, which can be a matter of concern for India. Russia has been India’s long -term partner and major arms supplier. However, in recent years, especially in 2024 when Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishostine and Deputy Prime Minister Alexi overchuk visited Pakistan, the relationship between the two countries was further strengthened.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, trade between Russia and Pakistan has also increased. In 2024, trade between the two countries crossed US $ 1 billion.
Enemies of the past today’s partner
During the Cold War, Pakistan and Russia were enemies of the then USSR. Pakistan had tied up with the US and trained Afghan Mujahideen against the Soviet Union. But over time, the strategic interests of the two countries came close to each other due to live political changes. Now Russia cannot ignore Pakistan’s strategic position, especially due to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
