US President Donald Trump has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an ‘very intelligent person’ and his ‘very good friend’ and said that very good results will come out of the ongoing talks between America and India.
Trump’s remarks came on the day of discussion on bilateral trade with Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt’s US Deputy Foreign Minister Christopher Landau. During this discussion, the issue of reducing obstacles for balanced business relations was also included.
Prime Minister Modi has always been a very good friend
Trump said in the White House on Friday, ‘Prime Minister Modi came here recently and we have always been very good friends.’ His remarks came a few days before the US announcement of imposing a counter border on several countries including India from April 2.
Trump said, ‘India is one of the highest charges in the world. It is ruthless, it is ruthless. They are very intelligent. He (Modi) is a very intelligent person and I have very good friends. Our conversation was very good. I think it will do a great job between India and our country. ‘
Along with this, the US President pointed to Prime Minister Modi, saying, ‘I want to say that you have a great Prime Minister.’
PM Modi visited America in February
Prime Minister Modi visited America in February and held bilateral discussion with Trump. During this time, both sides announced a plan to interact on mutually beneficial, multi-regional bilateral trade agreement.
Trump has accused India of imposing very high customs duty several times before. He has said that now America will also impose counter customs duty.
Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Ministry has said that Egyptian and Landau discussed issues related to growing bilateral trade, defense and technology cooperation and movement and migration.
US State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said that the two officials discussed ‘ongoing efforts to reduce obstacles to obtain fair and balanced bilateral trade relations’ and strengthening cooperation in defense and technology.
US Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch is also on a tour of India at this time. He is interacting with Indian negotiators regarding the outline and provisions of the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA).
