American Supreme Court: The US Supreme Court has given a big blow to President Donald Trump on Wednesday (March 05, 2025). His attempt to prevent foreign aid payments of about $ 2 billion dismissed. In its first judgment on the legal challenge given to the Trump administration, the court upheld the lower court order by 5-4 votes. In this decision, it was necessary to pay on the assistance contracts which have already been completed.
According to the news agency AFP, the judges said that the judges who had ordered the re -starting payment for contracts with the US International Development Agency (USAID) and the Foreign Department, should make it clear what responsibilities will have to be fulfilled by the government. Amy Kony Barrett, appointed by Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts and Trump, voted with three judges of the nine -member Supreme Court.
There is still scope for controversy
Although the funds have been allowed to issue funds in this decision, the judges have not fixed any clear deadline and this has made a scope for further controversy in the lower courts. Apart from this, Justice Amy Kony Barrett, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomier and Ketanji Brown Jackson were also not signed with Chief Justice John Roberts.
At the same time, judges like Samuel Alito, Clearance Thomas, Neel Golsch and Brett Kawanugh opposed it and argued that the court was encroaching its jurisdiction. Alito wrote, “Does a single district court judge have the uncontrolled power to bind the United States government to repay the dollar of 2 billion taxpayers (and possibly forever)?”
Know what is the dispute?
The dispute focuses on billions of dollars of foreign aid from the US State Department and the US International Development Agency (USAID), which was stopped by Trump in January. However, several NGOs challenged the ban by arguing that it violated the Congress rights at federal expenses and disrupted significant global health and human initiatives.
Trump has said that USAID is running a fundamentalist and Musk called it a criminal organization and said that it should be ruined.
