Versant to rename MSNBC, drop peacock logos

MSNBC will change its name later this year and will leave the image of peacock stored with its branding-the first real public-focus in the upcoming separation of the warcent Comcast NBCUNIVERSAL.

The political news network will be renamed as Mai Source News Opinion World, or Ms. Now, Versent Chief Executive Officer Mark Lazarus wrote in an internal memorandum to the employees seen by CNBC in an internal memorandum.

“During this time of infection, NBCUNIVERSAL decided that our brand needed a new, separate identity,” Kuttler wrote. “This decision now allows us to determine our syllabus and claim our freedom as we continue to build our own modern news.”

The MSNBC name changes and the new logo will all be introduced before the end of the year, when Versent plans to spin as a publicly trading company.

Kuttler said in his memorandum on Monday that MSNBC will soon stop a national marketing campaign with the launch of the new name, “Unlike what we have done recently in memory.”

MSNBC is the second most viewed cable news network, which an average of 1.2 million primetime spectators year after year. The network has 28 on-air anchors, 21 correspondents and correspondents, and offer live programming over 120 hours each week.
