Pakistan train hijack: Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited Balochistan on Thursday (March 13, 2025). Shahbaz Sharif met the victims in the Jafar Express Hijack case. Apart from this, he also met the commandos involved in the rescue operation, who rescued more than 300 passengers.
The visit of Shahbaz Sharif took place on Thursday, the next day after 33 terrorists of the Balochistan Liberation Army, who hijacked the Jaffer Express train in Quetta, Balochistan. Shahbaz Sharif was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Ataullah Tarar, Science and Technology Minister Nawabzada Mir Khalid Magsi and other officials were also present.
Jaffer Express was hijacked on Tuesday
The attack on the Jafar Express started on Tuesday, when the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) fighters blown the railway track. After the attack, 9 coaches and engine of Jafar Express were trapped in a tunnel in the hilly area near Gudra and Piru Kunri. After this, BLA fighters opened fire on the windows of the train before entering the train coaches. Many passengers lost their lives in the attack, while many passengers were injured and others were taken hostage by the BLA.
After the Jaffer Express was hijacked, Pakistan’s Army started a 2 -day rescue operation which ended with the end of all 33 BLA fighters on Wednesday.
Pakistan Army issued a statement
It was told by the Pakistan Army that during the attack on the train, BLA terrorists were in direct contact with their leaders in Afghanistan via satellite phones. Regarding this matter, the Pakistani Army has appealed to the Afghan Taliban government not to use its area for terrorist activities across the border. These allegations of Pakistan have been continuously denied by the Government of Afghanistan.
Rescue and results
The military campaign included the units of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Special Services Group (SSG), Army and Frontier Core (FC). Pakistan Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary said that security forces worked fast to neutralize the danger and save the hostages’. He said, ‘Such terrorist acts will not be tolerated. Chaudhary insisted, ‘This incident has changed the rules of the game’.
