Tahawwur rana extradition: The US Supreme Court on Monday (April 7, 2025) dismissed the petition demanding Tahwwur Rana, accused of the Mumbai terror attack, to stop India’s extradition. With this decision of the US court, the way has been cleared to bring Tahwwur Rana to India.
64 -year -old Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, Tehwwur Rana is currently closed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. On February 27, he submitted an emergency application to the US Supreme Court Associate Judge and Circuit Judge Elena Kagan of the ninth circuit to stop the pending trial of the ‘Badi corpus petition’.
At the beginning of last month, Kagan rejected the application. After this, Rana renewed his application and requested that renewed application be sent to Chief Justice Roberts. Post on the Supreme Court website, an order said that Rana’s renewed application was listed for the meeting of April 4, 2025.
A notice on Monday on the Supreme Court website said, “The court has rejected the application.” In his petition, the accused in the Mumbai attacks also made many allegations against India. He had cited the report of Human Rights Watch 2023, saying that the BJP government of India discriminates with religious minorities, especially Muslims and it is becoming a dictator.
Tawwur Rana said in his petition, “If I was handed over to India, it will be tortured there for being a Muslim of Pakistani origin. Last month Donald Trump said that America has approved the United States to extradite Tehwavur Rana to India.
