The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday abolished its comprehensive authority of covid vaccines in the US, cleaning shots for high -risk people only of serious illness.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior said in a post on X, “The Emergency Use Authority for Covid vaccines, once used to justify the wider mandate on the general public during the biden administration, is now canceled.”
“American people demanded science, security and general knowledge,” he said. “This structure saves all three.”
It follows several attempts by Kennedy, a major vaccine skeptical to change and reduce vaccinations in the US, the new limited authority is a break from the US vaccine policy in the previous years, which recommended an annual covid shot for 6 months and more of all Americans.
A major panel of vaccine advisors for disease control and prevention centers should be voted to recommend covid shots. But Kennedy snatched the panel earlier this year and named new members, some of whom are widely known as vaccine critics.
In the post, Kennedy stated that shots are available to all patients who choose them after consulting their doctors. But it is not clear how easily the patients will be able to get a covid vaccine without high risk factors, and whether insurance plans will still cover shots for healthy Americans.

In a release, Fizer confirmed that the FDA had Approved its updated Kovid shot For the use of 65 and above in adults and at least with a underlying condition at 64, at the age of five, which puts them at high risk for serious illness. The company will start shot shipping immediately, and it will be “nationwide” in pharmacies, hospitals and clinics.
